Christmas is almost upon us, and we are in the midst of the present-buying window. There are several Blu-rays and DVDs which have recently been released, or will be released in time for Christmas. In the next month or so, I will be featuring my picks of home video goodness.
Following the recent success of the cinematic re-release, The Lion King is being released on 3D Blu-ray. Originally released in 1994, The Lion King was one of the shining jewels of Disney’s very success period of the 1990s. The film is pretty much guaranteed to bring a tear to even the most black-hearted of souls. The film is being released on 3D Blu-ray and Diamond Edition DVD, both of which feature a whole host of extra features. The Lion King is available from 7th November 2011.
Beauty and the Beast
One of my all-time favourite Disney films, Beauty and the Beast was recently on 3D Blu-ray and Diamond Edition DVD. For those lucky enough to own a 3D television, the animation looks pretty special on this format. The film is perfect for Christmas viewing; a magical rendition of a fairy tale that features some of Disney’s best soundtrack songs. Beauty and the Beast is available to buy now.
Ok, this is not one I want for Christmas, having not seen any of the films in the series. However, I know plenty of people who would be thrilled to receive this. The final instalment of the Harry Potter franchise is shortly due to be released on Blu-ray and DVD. Both the DVD and the Blu-ray feature a plethora of special features. For those who have a bit more to spend on Potter fans, the entire series in being released in a collectors boxset. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is released on 2nd December 2011.
